Carers Cafe

What’s this project about?

Carers will benefit in the following ways: ‍ • Peace of mind knowing that there is a safe, welcoming space that they can drop into when they need support. ‍ • Social connection- building relationships of mutual respect and support with other people in the community. ‍ •Information and Referral- access to other important agencies and resources. ‍ •Empowerment- capacity building and mentoring for those who want to develop their skills.

The community will be better off in the following ways: ‍ • Easier access to complex information- community members will grow in their knowledge of and ability to navigate complex systems (e.g. NDIS, my aged care etc.) and share information with each other. ‍ • Increased social cohesion- community members will build relationships with others from diverse backgrounds and experiences and develop increased awareness, understanding and empathy for others from diverse backgrounds.

Carers NSW, Emu Plains Uniting Church (EPUC), and local residents/carers will work in collaboration to equip and coordinate an existing venue. A coordinator recruited by Carers NSW will work on site with the EPUC Community Development Coordinator to launch and develop the Carers Café and engage with carers around their needs and goals, and then support them in working towards their needs and goals.
