Healthy Tweed Connect

A community active health program for the Tweed region powered by a Healthy Tweed Connect App.

Healthy Tweed Connect

What’s this project about?

The vision is for the Tweed region to become an NSW pilot for a healthy and active community program that is inspired by the Gold Coast 'Active and Healthy Lifestyle' program. Healthy Tweed Connect will encourage all ages to get active and 'swap screen time for green time' to promote mental, physical and community well-being. The aim is to establish the Tweed as a healthy community and wellness tourism destination.

We are currently facing an obesity epidemic with two thirds of Australians being overweight or obese (ABS 2018). Healthy Tweed Connect will empower the community to embrace personal wellness goals (via the app). This will be a powerful preventative health initiative to connect family, friends and the community with like-minded others. The creation of community based active weekly programs engages business and tourism operators benefitting both residents and visitors.

Healthy Tweed Connect will approve providers to run wellness activities. Interested participants will be able to download the Healthy Tweed Connect App which will ask questions to identify their personal wellness goals. These goals will direct the user to activities in the Tweed Region that meet these needs. The participants and providers will then join an online community to maintain their engagement.

Why should you vote for this project?

  • It will promote physical, mental, social and community wellbeing across the region
  • It will provide a community preventative health model powered by technology, which could be replicated in other regions of NSW.
  • It will create support networks for participants and providers alike, to embed a preventative health focus in the Tweed.
