Bounce into health outdoors at your friendly, community gym

What’s this project about?

It will rejuvenate an outdoor, all-weather gym area that is underutilised. The benefit will be an increase in community participation and engagement in group exercise programs designed for families, mums and Indigenous community members. ‍ The outdoor space is an existing, contained, shady and attractive space. Refreshing the sub-standard flooring will provide a rare, outdoor, safe and inclusive place for community health activities. ‍ Imagine community exercise and fun under gum trees!

There are few, if any, contained outdoor exercise spaces in Redfern. We will be able to provide new exercise programs that will increase activity levels across non-traditional gym-users. ‍ The NCIE has expertise in developing inclusive and innovative fitness programs engaging young parents, older people, and Indigenous community members. The additional space will add to vibrancy of health programming for the region.

The project will be coordinated by the NCIE staff and their facility manager. Synthatech, a company with extensive expertise in synthetic flooring, has provided a quote. The works will be carried out between October and November 2019. The new program of activities will be launched in Summer 2019/20.

Why should you vote for this project?

  • Meet your whole community through inclusive and enjoyable group exercise activities. Get your daily activity dose and have fun.
